We read The 26-Story Treehouse by Andy Griffiths. If you could build a one story treehouse, what would it be? What would it look like?
First and second grade students read a nonfiction book and discussed text features like captions, headings, table of contents, and index. Students then used TumbleBooks and BookFlix to read more nonfiction. We are honored to welcome Australian author Andy Griffiths on April 18. Mr. Griffiths is the author of a number of hilarious books including The Cat on the Mat is Flat and The 13 Story Treehouse. He has been a teacher, the lead singer in a rock band and a stand-up comedian. He'll be meeting with 2-4th graders to talk about how he writes his books.
K-2 students celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday this week. We read The Sneetches, then learned more about Dr. Seuss at the Seussville website.
This week in media, 3rd grade students visited Worldbook Kids, our online encyclopedia, to begin learning how to search and find information. 4th grade students visited three online resources (Worldbook Kids, Worldbook Student, and the database Kids Infobits). Students searched for the same topic at each site and we discussed the importance of citing sources. |
